Missed Appointments

At Mistylaw Medical Practice we strive to provide high-quality care and ensure that all patients have fair access to appointments. Missed appointments, or “Did Not Attends” (DNAs), prevent us from offering these slots to other patients in need and result in wasted resources. To address this, we have implemented the following DNA policy:

Policy Details:

  1. First Missed Appointment (1st DNA):
    • If you do not attend a scheduled appointment without prior notification, you will receive a text message (if we have your mobile number on record) or a letter informing you of the missed appointment.
    • This communication serves as a reminder of the importance of attending or cancelling appointments in advance to allow others to benefit from the available time slot.
  2. Second Missed Appointment (2nd DNA):
    • If a second appointment is missed without prior notification, you will receive a formal letter.
    • This letter will:
      • Notify you of the second missed appointment.
      • Warn that any further missed appointments may result in your removal from the practice list.
      • Encourage you to contact the surgery if there are specific reasons for your non-attendance so we can assist you.
  3. Third Missed Appointment (3rd DNA) and Beyond:
    • If a third appointment is missed without prior notification, the practice may consider removing you from our patient list.
    • Before any removal occurs, we will:
      • Send a final letter notifying you of our intent to remove you from the practice list.
      • Allow 28 days for you to respond or provide an explanation.
    • Removal will proceed only after this period, unless exceptional circumstances are identified (e.g., medical or personal difficulties).

Why We Have This Policy:

  • Missed appointments waste valuable time and resources, preventing other patients from receiving timely care.
  • By encouraging attendance or cancellation (with at least [insert time, e.g., 24 hours] notice), we can reallocate slots efficiently and maintain a high standard of service for all patients.

How to Avoid a DNA:

  • If you cannot attend an appointment, please cancel or reschedule as soon as possible by:
    • Calling us at on 01505 842200/ 01505 502344
    • Visiting the surgery in person during opening hours Monday- Friday 8:30-18:00
  • If you have difficulty attending appointments, please let us know—we may be able to offer support, such as reminders or alternative arrangements.

Exceptions:

  • We understand that unforeseen circumstances (e.g., emergencies or illness) may prevent attendance. If this applies to you, please contact us as soon as possible to explain, and we will take this into account.

Questions or Concerns:

If you have any questions about this policy or need assistance, please contact the practice manager. We are here to support you in accessing the care you need.
